Imagine saving between 30% and 90% on all of your college texts. You can also save up to 75% on software at the Academic Superstore .

Click on the subject links to find popular texts. We'll show you the current edition (at a substantial discount) and the previous edition (at a tremendous discount). You should check with your professor to see if a previous edition (which often will have only minor changes) is acceptable. If it is, it is often possible to buy texts for pennies on the dollar.

The college book store may be the the most convenient place to buy your texts.  The bookstores feature orderly layouts where you can see exactly what you need for each course.

The college book stores, however, have a major drawback. The books are often more expensive than books you can find online. If you're not too proud to buy a book that's previously been read, your savings may be substantial.

Thanks for visiting us at Cheap Texts Online. We wish you the best of luck for the semester.

The high costs of texts

What's involved in publishing

The process of developing a textbook is arduous.  It often takes an author several years to write the text, while a graphic designer works on the layout and illustrations.  Drafts of the text are sent to reviewers, who are generally experts in the field.  The book then goes through an editorial process and is revised.  Meanwhile, the text companies hire marketers to visit college campuses, meet with professors and discuss the merits of the texts.  All of these steps add to the situation where a college textbook today generally tops $100.

Used Texts

Why so many new editions?

When a new textbook is sold, the author receives a royalty and the publisher makes a profit.  When the book is re-sold later as a used book, the author and publisher receive nothing.  There was a time when most students kept their texts after the course was over.  Today, most students re-sell their texts, creating a new, large market in used texts. This has eroded the profits of the publishers.  As a result, the publishers are encouraged to turn out new editions as often as possible.  By making the old editions obsolete, new students are forced into buying the new texts.  Often the changes between editions are subtle.  Most of the actual text remains the same.  Sometimes illustrations and page numberings change.  Be sure to check with your professor to see if it is ok to use the previous edition of the text.  If it is, you could save 90% on the cost.

When the semester ends

What to do with your books

There are several ways of disposing of your books at the end of the semester.

First, consider keeping the text for future reference.  Think about whether you will have a use for the text.  It is cheaper to keep it than to sell it and then later buy a new copy.

Try selling it back to your college book store.

Sell or trade the text to a fellow student at your campus.  You can generally put ads on bulletin boards free of charge.  State what books you have available and how much you want.

Sell your books online.  You can try selling your books online using an ebay auction or selling at amazon.com or half.com.
